Artificial insemination

With this technique sperm previously capacitated in our laboratory is introduced into the uterine cavity at the time when ovulation is calculated to occur. If the semen used belongs to the patient’s partner, the technique is referred to as Conjugal Artificial Insemination (CAI); when semen from an anonymous donor is employed then it is called Donor Artificial Insemination (DAI).

Artificial insemination can be performed during the natural cycle, or following an ovarian stimulation process. In this case periodic ultrasound (echographic) studies are made, sometimes accompanied by blood tests, to evaluate the increase in follicles and hormone levels in order to decide the best moment to perform insemination.

This technique does not requires any type of anesthesia, as the sperm is introduced in the uterus using a flexible catheter, and the patient can return home immediately after treatment.

Conjugal artificial insemination (CAI) is indicated for those couples where the sperm have problems penetrating the mucus of the uterine neck, when the male has difficulties depositing the semen within the vagina, or when the male presents a moderate decrease in sperm number (count) and/or motility – among other causes.

In cases characterized by a total absence of spermatozoons (azoospermia) and none can be obtained with a testicular biopsy, or when the client refuses to undergo this procedure, or in the case of women without a stable partner, or it is a single woman who wishes to have a child, the reproductive technique involves the use of sperm from our own Sperm Bank (DAI).
