Microsurgical testicular / epididymis sperm aspiration (TESA)

This procedure has been developed for the treatment of men who suffer a block in sperm flow from the testicle – as a result of which the semen contains no sperm (azoospermia).

Microsurgical techniques are used to aspirate sperm from the epididymis, or alternatively sperm are collected by direct biopsy of the testicle. The harvested sperm are then processed in the laboratory for use in an ICSI cycle.
